OVERNIGHT EXPEDITION

Self-Guided - Nature Adventures will help you plan your expedition. This requires a lot of work, but we do this for a living! We have equipment, food, maps and supplies necessary to make your expedition complete. If you have your own kayaks or canoes, Nature Adventures will help you plan your own expedition for a $50 fee per person. This includes obtaining your access and camping permits,tide planning, maps, confirmation itinerary planning, other information and emergency provisions.
Guided - With University Degreed Naturalist, American Canoe Association Certficiated Kayak guides and instructors, First Aid / CPR Current, and Experienced guides, your expedition is complete. Right down to tasting edible plants and having meals cooked and catered at your campsites. Our guides know the way and provide the safest, educational and recreational and fun tour possible!...... Have your own kayaks or canoes?
We have Expedition Shuttle Services: Park your car at our location and leave your worries behind. We will transport you and your gear to your input or we can pick you up at your output. - This is a Shuttle services for hikers, those who have their own kayaks, bicycles, etc.......... $10 per person, minimum $25.......... If you leave your car at the remote trailheads vandalism may occur! This is why it's a good idea to leave it with us.

All Boats - (Extended touring sea kayaks or Recreational kayaks), PFD's, Maps, paddles, paddle floats, dry bags, various supplies, Tents, Permits and "really good" Food is an option! See fees below:
Don't like primitive camping? ....
You may request on water accommodations on our Saltwater Expeditions in McClellanville ($125.00 - $200.00/ night extra, however the price includes up to 12... so it's a great deal!-- This fee is extra on top of your regular expedition fee- see below). This is an option instead of camping. We paddle our boats right up to these places during the expeditions. If you don't like our primitive camping included in your expedition, there are campsites with full amenities (showers and restrooms) as well. ( $25/ night per 4 campers/ site extra) ....... Includes areas nestled in the National forest and refuge.... Indian ruins, shrimping village, etc...

You can paddle in either black or salt water areas on our expeditions. Capers Island is by kayak access only and we camp by tent, primitive. Other saltwater areas on the back side of the barrier islands have car access and some motel room or home rentals are available on the water as well.(see above for details). We can help you plan your expedition if you tell us if you want it “primitive” in areas with no development or semi-primitive where you can camp at a campground with access to showers and your car, or full amenity “housing” where you’ll kayak from the motel room or house you rent. You have these 3 choices!
You can also bring your own food or we can “cook for you primitive” at your campsite… see menus included.
Expeditions range from 2 days, 1 night to up to a week long. We suggest if you want to make a week out of it to “split” your expedition by doing ½ blackwater and ½ saltwater.
You can do these self guided if you have some experience or ½ guided or fully guided.
*Expeditions range in mileage from 6 miles/ day to 10 miles/ day. We usually plan your expedition based on your paddling experience.

Planning Your Expedition
ON YOUR OWN (least expensive)
– You are basically renting the boats from us on a ½ day or full day basis.
½ day constitutes rentals going out after 1 p.m. OR coming in before 12:00 noon
Full day – includes daylight hours…..sun up to sun down
½ day rentals - $33 each seat per day
Full day rentals - $43/ each seat per day
*You will be given full instructions and a laminated map with directions.
For Example: Meet us at 9 a.m., depart on your expedition, camp overnight and return by 12 noon = $43 for the full day rental + $33 for the half day rental = $76 …… *Add $10 if you are returning after 12 noon ( which would constitute a full day rental)
½ GUIDED – Guide paddles you out to the island or through the swamp to your campsite and you paddle yourselves back the next day! - a lot of clients take this option.
Day One - $85/ ages 13 and up, $48/ ages 12 and under
Day Two – Rental Rates apply (on your own) - $33/ seat if you come back before noon, $43/ seat if you come back after noon.
For Example – One Adult is $85+30 = $115 ( returning by 12 noon the 2nd day) *Add $10 more if returning after 12 noon.
If you have YOUR OWN Equipment: A $50 fee applies for the first day of guided service.
FULLY GUIDED – Guide paddles with you and spends the night with you at your campsite and paddles back with you the next day. Full interpretation of the flora and fauna and kayak instruction included. Also includes, TENTS, SLEEPING BAGS AND ALL FOOD!This is a great deal! You may be in a group of up to 8 persons.
2 DAYS, 1 NIGHT - includes 2 days of paddling
$300/ ages 13 and up, $200/ ages 12 and under
*Additional Days - $150 / adult and $100/ ages 12 and under
If you have YOUR OWN Equipment: It's $25 off per person per day. This price still includes your food and fully guided service.

(without food, $175 each with food)
- Scouts and Schools - $100 each - (without food, $125 each with food)

EQUPMENT: You may request either Recreational Style Kayaks for day paddling in the swamp or expedition style sea kayaks. We also have Carbon Paddles and Upgraded Pfd Jackets for your comfort and to ease your “mileage” in paddling.
RENTALS:
If you are on your own...... here are some things you may want to rent from us:
Tent Rentals - $5/ person. Tents sleep 3, 4 and 8 respectively. *If you do our 3 day, 2 night fully guided expedition the tent rental is included
Sleeping Bag rentals - $5/ person – freshly laundered and comes with a pillow and sleeping pad. *No cost to 3 day, 2 night fully guided expeditions
Firewood – It’s scarce on the island and can not be collected in the wilderness areas in the swamp- $20, $25 and $30 bundles - *Included in 3 day, 2 night fully guided expeditions
*All equipment is subject to come back in good condition, not torn and not broken. If damaged, your credit card is subject to be charged for repairs or replacement. If you notice damage prior to your rentals, please advise your guide immediately.

We use expedition style sea kayaks for paddling out to Capers Island. If you are planning on spending 2 or more nights on Capers and you are doing this expedition on your own, it’s a good idea to rent our boat provisions, see below:
Those of you choosing our FULLY GUIDED Expeditions..... this service is INCLUDED!
Boat Provisions: A motor boat carries all of your gear, food, water, cooler, chairs, firewood out to the island for you. $25/ per person… This includes drop off and pick up of everything)….$150/ minimum.
*The route to Capers Island overnight is out of Garris Landing. It is a 5.5 mile paddle to the island.
*Swamp Routes are scheduled respective to tides and water levels

FOOD –Our FULLY GUIDED Expeditions include your food. You'll never be hungry! Here is an example of what is included:
Breakfasts - bagels, yogurt, fruit and cereal bars plus juice, coffee or hot chocolate
plus FARM FRESH eggs, bacon or sausage.
Lunches - includes sandwich varieties, chips, cookies, fruit, crackers and water
Dinners - Beach or Swamp Burgers (can also be vegetarian), two sides, desert and water
Fresh Local Fish or Seafood, two sides, desert and water
* A lot of times we include fresh fish, clams, oysters or shrimp we catch on the island expedition. It's fun to help your guide do this!......... and delicious! We do "clam bakes" that are wondeful!

Reservations and Payments: A 50% deposit is taken at the time of your reservation. The balance is collected at the time of your arrival. We accept Visa or Mastercard, checks or cash. A 100% refund is given if cancellation is made 2 weeks prior to your scheduled expedition date. If cancellation is made within the 2 weeks of your date, refunds will be adjusted to our expenses and or rain checks may be given. Thank you for your understanding.

Blackwater:
Journey "down" the Santee River and camp out Riverside on an island, or sandy riverbank.! We explore Rice Canals, Blackwater Creeks, Brackishwater marshes and Freshwater islands all along the way. Once paddled and occupied by the Santee Indians, this pristine wilderness remains the same, uninhabited by development nestled in the Francis Marion National Forest.
See... Bald eagles, Swallow-tailed Kites, Hawks and many varieties of Wetland Birds. Shy and elusive Alligators, River Otter, Deer and Wild Boar are also sometimes seen.
Primitive and Semi-primitive camping available. Waterways include: Santee River , Echaw, Wambaw, Chicken and Hampton Creeks, The Edisto River, The Black River and more.
Saltwater:
Santee Coastal Reserve, Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, Barrier Island waters & Marshes of the Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge, McClellanville (Jeremy Creek ) and Awendaw Creeks.
Explore Barrier Islands, Brackishwater and Saltwater Marshes and Creeks throughout the Cape Romain Wildlife Refuge, The Santee Coastal Reserve and the Francis Marion National Forest. Dolphins, occasional Loggerhead sea turtles and hundreds of coastal shorebirds frequent the area. Over 277 species of birds documented. Explore Remote Beaches, Islands and Coastal Plain Indian Ceremonial Shell rings.
These tours include some Open water paddling with full sun, wind and currents. *Guided tours highly suggested on the Coastal Expedition.
